Two boys, aged 12 and 15, have been charged with aggravated robbery in relation to an attempted robbery of a Kaitaia dairy on Sunday night.

The police said the two boys entered the North Road Dairy with a rifle around 7.30pm, threatened the female shopkeeper and left with some items from the store.

Dipika Patel, who owns the North Road Dairy, said she spotted them on the security camera, and started yelling and screaming to scare them away, before grabbing a broom and chasing them out.

The police said they have spoken to a witness, who helped them find the two boys.

The 12-year-old also faces charges of assaulting and resisting police, and will appear at the Kaitaia Youth Court on 3 November.

He and the 15-year-old will both appear at the court on 2 December.
