About 20 Bunnings employees in Dunedin walked off the job this afternoon in protest at changes to their rosters.

First Union said the company had made a contract offer which demanded people be available for work, without the guarantee of stable hours.

Striking union member Alister Forgie said the company had brought in extra security and there was a police presence outside the Dunedin store.

Bunnings said its latest pay offer to staff gave them a 4 percent increase, and it needed to retain flexibility in rostering workers.
