5:36 pm on 18 November 2015

Police are hunting a gang of young men who sexually assaulted a girl after she got off her school bus in the north Waikato town of Meremere.

The four men - believed to be aged between 16 and 20 - grabbed the girl as she was walking home in her school uniform from the bus stop near the town's library.

The attack happened last Thursday at 4pm.

Acting Detective Sergeant Chris Cummings said in a statement three of the offenders were described as Māori or Polynesian, and the other was Pākehā.

"One was of medium build and about 182cm tall wearing a black jersey and baggy maroon knee-length shorts.

"The second was of thin build and walked with a limp wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans and a blue bucket style hat.

"The third man was of large build, about 167cm tall wearing a dark brown t-shirt and grey track pants.

"The fourth offender was possibly a Caucasian male of slim build about 180cm tall."

Mr Cummings said the group was last seen running in the direction of the town library and store after the attack.

He asked anyone with information to contact him or call Crimestoppers.
