An Auckland high school principal says the incident, which has been viewed online more than 200,000 times, has put a group of pupils under intense scrutiny.

The video - recorded at South Auckland's James Cook High School - shows the boy falling while being verbally abused by two other boys .

Principal Vaughan Couillault said the video does not show the full incident, as all three boys were involved in the argument and the two boys immediately picked up the student in the wheelchair.

He said the two boys have been told to leave Auckland because of online death threats and the girl who filmed it is also under scrutiny.

"I've got two kids that are probably going to have to move out of Auckland for about six months, and a young lady who is in an extremely dangerous emotional state, and the boy in the wheelchair is - hand on my heart - absolutely fine."

Mr Couillault said the school had disciplined the boys before the online reaction.
