14-year-old caught drink driving in Wairarapa

Police say a 14-year-old boy is among drivers facing drink driving charges following a blitz in the Masterton area.

Wellington District Road Policing Manager Inspector Mike Wright said he was was astonished and disappointed to read the results of the activity of the Traffic Alcohol Group overnight.

He said more than a thousand motorists were stopped at checkpoints in Masterton and three drivers are facing charges relating to drink driving.

He said regrettably, one of those drivers was a 14-year-old boy.

The boy has been referred to Youth Aid and his vehicle impounded.
