One person is dead after being struck by a train in New Plymouth this afternoon.

The person, who is yet to be identified, was struck by a train at the crossing off the end of Weymouth St at 1pm today.
Police said the area will be cordoned off until emergency services have completed a scene examination.
The victim's name will not be released until their identity has been confirmed and family members have been notified.
New Plymouth police have asked the public to stay away from the area until the scene has been properly examined and reopened.
