Man charged with Canterbury murder

A 51-year-old man in Christchurch has been charged with the murder of Marcus Luke Tucker.

Mr Tucker's burnt body was found near a lake in rural Canterbury last week.

A 31-year-old woman has also been arrested and charged with conspiring to assault and accessory after the fact.

Both are due to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.

Police are now conducting a scene examination at a house in Bishopdale and are also searching a house in Addington.

Police said Mr Tucker, who was 36, was brutally assaulted prior to his death, before his body was burned and left at Doyleston, south of Christchurch.

Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald of the Christchurch police thanked the community, who had responded excellently to the police appeal for help in the investigation.
