Five on court fracas charges remanded

3:28 pm on 24 May 2016

Five people arrested after a fracas at the Hawera District Court in which a police officer was injured have reappeared in closed court, flanked by police officers and court security staff.

Allan Hughes-Kapita, Stephen Kapita, Daniel Moka and Aloma Whakatutu face charges of disorderly behaviour and resisting police.

Jason Aranui is charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting.

The group had earlier pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In March the group was supporting Patricia and Kylee Green, who faced charges related to the removal of Shell Todd Oil Services' seismic survey pegs.

They were arrested after a protest outside the court became violent.

Today the group was remanded for judge-alone trials on 10 August.
