The driver facing charges over a fatal crash following a police pursuit north of Wellington over the weekend remains in hospital.
Police said the man was a 42-year-old from Horowhenua. He was expected to be released into police custody yesterday morning.
But a police spokesman said the man was still in hospital.
The crash was on Kenepuru Drive in Porirua about 8.30pm on Saturday.
A Wellington Hospital spokeswoman said the man was in a comfortable condition.
When released he will appear in Porirua District Court.
He was expected to be charged with recklessly operating a motor vehicle causing death.
His female passenger, who was 21, died in hospital from her injuries.
Police said the car failed to stop when requested and the pursuit lasted for about two minutes before the driver lost control on a bend.
