Support package welcomed

8:15 am on 3 November 2011

A Tauranga businessman says a Government support package for small businesses hit hard by the Rena oil spill will provide some much needed relief.

The scheme was announced yesterday and is expected to cover about 120 employees by providing up to six weeks of wage subsidies.

Tauranga Marine Charters owner Brett Keller says he knows of a lot of businesses that could do with the help, including camping grounds and diving operators.

The subsidy is for small businesses that either cannot operate or have experienced significant loss because of the grounding and can't pay their employees.
