Quiet day for New Zealand athletes

Rio 2016 Olympics - It was a relatively subdued day for New Zealand athletes at the Rio Olympics today.

After yesterday's success in kayaking and sailing, no medals were won by New Zealand athletes today.

The women's Black Sticks team lost 3-nil to Great Britain in their semi final meaning they'll play for bronze against Germany on Saturday.

In the early hours of the morning two-time Olympic champion kayaker Lisa Carrington qualified for the final of the K1 500 after finishing second in the semi finals.

Tomorrow she'll aim to become the first female New Zealand athlete to win two golds at a single games.

The 470 men's and women's sailing medal races have been postponed due to a lack of wind.

New Zealand's defending Olympic champions Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie are second overall in the women's 470 and are chasing the silver medal, with the first placed Great British crew just needing to finish the race to claim gold.

The men's crew of Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Willcox are ninth.

Both races will now happen tomorrow along with the men's 49er final which New Zealand flagbearers Blair Tuke and Peter Burling have already won gold in.

Alex Maloney and Molly Meech will compete in the women's 49er FX final, they're in fourth but are just one point behind first.

New Zealand's world number one Lydia Ko is well in the hunt after the first round of the women's golf tournament.

Ko's in a tie for 11th after she shot a two under 69 in the first round.

It's the first time women's golf has been played at the Olympics in 116 years.

New Zealand's BMX rider Trent Jones is into the quarter finals of men's event after seeding this morning, he'll race in the first heat tomorrow.

Angie Petty has failed to advance to the semi-finals of the women's 800m while Stuart Farquhar also fell short of making the men's javelin final.

Andrea Kilday was also unable to progress to the Taekwondo quarter-finals.

New Zealand's medal tally hasn't changed, it stands at three golds, six silvers and one bronze.
