Despite the drizzle, thousands of people turned out for a Rugby World Cup victory parade in Wellington on Wednesday.

Crowds lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the Webb Ellis Cup as it was carried from Civic Square to Parliament.

The All Blacks arrived at the square just after midday, where they were each announced individually and received applause from the crowd.

They then travelled through the central city to arrive at Parliament just after 1pm.

Once there, the parade was met by Prime Minister John Key where speeches were made, and the haka was performed in front of a delighted crowd.

Hometown hero Piri Weepu and captain Richie McCaw say the response from the public was amazing.

The forecast drizzle set in just before the parade began, but many people in the crowd came prepared with a number of All Blacks' umbrellas making an appearance.
