Landcorp committed to training role

State-owned farming enterprise Landcorp sees training as one of its key contributions to New Zealand agriculture.

Chief executive Chris Kelly has told Parliament's Primary Production select committee on Monday that as well as its commercial performance as the country's biggest farming operation, it has an important public good function through research, hosting field days and training.

Mr Kelly says the proposal to set up a dairy academy on the Crafar farms it will be managing is an example of what Landcorp is doing to fill the gap in training that educational bodies such as industry training organisations and universities can not provide.
