Wool prices rise

6:26 am on 8 June 2012

Wool prices rose again at this week's South Island sale, with about three quarters of the 10,000 bales on offer sold.

Wool Services International says the higher prices were driven by increased demand, particularly from China, India, Western Europe and Australia.

Early shorn coarse crossbred fleece was up to 5% dearer with second shear types jumping by 4%.

First lambs wool was 1% dearer and crossbred oddments were up by 2%.

Next week's sale comprises 12,500 bales of North Island wool.
