Better cellphone reception expected at Fieldays

Better cellphone coverage is expected at this year's National Agricultural Fieldays, which begin near Hamilton this week.

The four-day agribusiness event at Mystery Creek features 1000 exhibitors and usually attracts about 120,000 visitors.

Event manager Vanessa Richmond says with so many people in one place, mobile phone lines sometimes become overloaded.

She says telecommunications company Vodafone has constructed a larger tower on-site to cope with the extra demand.

The theme of the 44th National Agricultural Fieldays is The Changing Face of Farming, highlighting the different models of land ownership in New Zealand.
