Mixed bag for wool prices

It has been a mixed bag for wool prices in the first sale of the new season.

Wool Services International says nearly 70% of the 8,800 bales of North Island wool on offer have sold.

General manager John Dawson says pressure on exporters to meet shipping schedules lifted the price of wool of particular lengths and micron range.

He says prices for all other types fell as expected.

Fine crossbred shears were up to 5% cheaper and first lambs fleece ranged from firm to 3% cheaper.

Clothing oddments were down by 3.5%, however the shorter types recovered considerably, lifting by up to 10%.
