Training courses for people working in dairy and meat processing and the seafood industry will come under a single body from the end of the month.
That's the result of a merger agreement between the New Zealand Industrial Training Organisation (ITO), which oversees vocational training for the meat and dairy sectors, and the Seafood ITO.
The merged body will organise on the job training for more than 60,000 employees in the three industries.
NZITO chairperson Graeme Sutton says the Government is keen to reduce the large number of training organisations and there will be cost savings and other benefits from combining the two.
He says PricewaterhouseCoopers did a report a couple of years ago also suggesting benefits if the two organisations merged.
Mr Sutton says the agriculture and horticulture ITOs are also merging.
