The board of Wool Equities has paid tribute to one of the company's directors.

Jim Pringle QSM died in Christchurch on Friday after a short illness.

Wool Equities chairman Cliff Heath says Mr Pringle who had considerable corporate experience in the field of agri-business, will be sadly missed.

In 2001, Mr Pringle chaired the board of what was then PPCS, now known as Silver Fern Farms, when it began moves to take over the majority shareholding of Hawke's Bay owned Meat Company Richmond.

He also served as a director and chairman of the fertiliser company Ravensdown.
