The Government is to change the rules for agricultural vehicles.
A review last year looked at the laws around the more than 40,000 registered agricultural vehicles in New Zealand, after concerns the laws did not take into account the special nature of those vehicles and the demands on production.
Associate Transport Minister Simon Bridges says the Government will establish a two tier system for agricultural vehicles based on a 40 kilometre an hour speed limit.
Vehicles operating below that speed will be exempt from warrant of fitness and work time requirements.
A new license endorsement will also allow drivers to operate a greater range of agricultural vehicles, once they prove they have the skills to do so.
Further public feedback is being sought about the changes before any rules are changed.
