Kiwifruit growers sought to take part in trials

Kiwifruit marketer Zespri is looking for growers to take part in commercial trials of new fruit varieties.

More than 50,000 seedlings are under evaluation in trials the marketer is running in conjunction with the Institute of Plant and Food Research.

Zespri's green produce category manager Rosstan Mazey says four varieties were identified last year as having commercial potential, and are currently being grown on 39 orchards across the country.

He says this year's trials will focus on both green and gold varieties, including trying to deliver a sweeter and more consistent tasting green fruit.
