Trans-Tasman meeting strengthens farming relationship

Federated Farmers says a joint board meeting with its equivalent organisation in Australia has strengthened their relationship.

The organisations held the first such meeting for eight years this week.

Federated Farmers say they now intend to meet more regularly, with the next meeting scheduled in two years' time.

Australia's National Farmers' Federation says the two groups were able to discuss shared challenges such as water, carbon and foreign investment.

Federated Farmers national president Bruce Wills says it's vital both countries work together on trade matters.

Mr Wills says the Australians were very interested to learn from New Zealand's experience with foreign investment.
