Greater safety improvement needed - Fed Farmers

Farm-related injuries are decreasing, but Federated Farmers is worried that those working on the land are still taking too many risks.

The latest figures from Statistics New Zealand show ACC claims for agricultural workers continue to fall.

Federated Farmers health and safety spokesperson, Jeanette Maxwell says while the improvement is encouraging, the 28,100 ACC claims made during the past year is still too high.

She says the "she'll be right" attitude is leading to injuries which cost the farming sector billions of dollars in lost productivity.

There is often no relief cover when a farmer is hurt and Ms Maxwell says the impact on families can be severe.
