Demand for finer wool perks up prices

6:48 am on 7 December 2012

Prices remained solid at this week's combined North and South Island wool sale with the finer wool prices strengthening on the back of demand from China.

Mid-micron and fine crossbred fleece prices increased by up to 5%.

New Zealand Wool Services general manager John Dawson said renewed activity from China helped stimulate the finer sector of the market with carpet types generally holding their ground.

More than 90% of the 14,000 bales on offer were sold.
