Time seen for clean streams accord for sheep and beef industry

A Wairarapa farmer says it's time the sheep and beef industry signed the equivalent of the dairy sector's clean streams accord.

Grant Muir lives on the Pahaoa River in Hinakura, east of Martinborough. His battles with some neighbouring farmers who leave their stock in the river were highlighted in River Dogs, an award winning environmental documentary in 2011.

Mr Muir says cattle are still brought into the river by sheep and beef farmers where they, drink, defecate and occasionally die.

He says it's time the sheep and beef industry adopted the equivalent of Fonterra's clean streams accord.
