A new organisation resulting from the merger of the Animal Health Board and NAIT has been named.

It's to be called OSPRI New Zealand, which chairman Jeff Grant said reflects its aim of providing operational solutions for primary industries.

The new organisation it expected to be formally operating by the middle of the year.

It combines the functions of the Animal Health Board, which is working to eradicate bovine tuberculosis in cattle and deer herds and NAIT, the national animal identification and traceability scheme, that was introduced for cattle last year and will be extended to deer this year.
