Farmers and growers in Northland will meet on Monday to decide whether to ask for drought assistance.
Southland is the only region that has had a decent rainfall since Christmas. Most other farming regions are now limiting milking to once per day.
Waikato was the first region to consider seeking drought status last week, but a decision was put on hold until Friday.
If granted, farmers will receive financial assistance, as well as mentoring and budgeting advice.
Northland Rural Support Trust says farmers and growers can't last much longer without water or financial help.
Auckland, Canterbury, Manawatu and Hawke's Bay are also expected to decide by the week's end whether they, too, will ask for help.
