Rural medical group explores use of technology

Rural doctors, nurses and other health workers have been getting an insight into the potential for the use of technology to bridge the isolation gap.

A rural health symposium in Wellington on Friday has continued the drive to improve access to medical services.

Co-convenor Dr Stuart Gowland, of Mobile Surgical Services, says the rural medical organisation is exploring new uses of video technology to provide back-up for rural doctors.

Dr Gowland says this includes a portable video transmitter which could be used to send images from an accident to a hospital.
