The public will have a chance on Sunday to see what farmers are doing in Bay of Plenty to survive the drought conditions.
Federated Farmers is hosting the day to illustrate the processes and measures put in place by farmers in the region.
John Scrimgeour, the organisation's Bay of Plenty president, says the drought has a flow-on affect to those outside rural areas and it is important to create greater understanding between the public and farmers.
Mr Scrimgeour says much attention has been focused on how dry it is and the stresses placed on farmers, so he hopes the day will bring a better appreciation of conditions they face.
The open day is being held at 1189 Welcome Bay Road.
All of the North Island and the Buller and Grey District in the South Island are official drought zones.
