A Bay of Plenty-based natural health company which specialises in manuka honey and olive leaf extracts has launched a store in Auckland.

Comvita officially opened the concept store in Auckland's Viaduct on Thursday night.

While Comvita has a large retail presence in Asia, Chief executive Brett Hewlett said it has been quite limited until now in New Zealand.

The new shop is targetted at tourists and visitors, particularly from China.

Mr Hewlett said mainland Chinese have come to know the brand through visiting Hong Kong where Comvita has had a presence for about 20 years.

But he said Chinese tourists who visit New Zealand and students studying here have got to know the brand for even longer than that.

Mr Hewlett said Comvita's also investing in a tourism venture in Bay of Plenty which will focus on honey and bees and will include a virtual beehive.
