Drought assistance numbers ease

One of the facilitators appointed to help farmers in Hawke's Bay who are in their third drought in three years, says the number seeking financial help from the Government has eased dramatically.

A month ago, 28 farmers in the region had applied for a payout of almost $1300 per month, to cover family living expenses.

But Drought Recovery Facilitator Mike Barham says in only two more farmers have applied for a special needs grant from the Ministry of Social Development the past month.
