Milking back to normal at Norsewood

Milking is back to normal on dairy farms caught in a police manhunt in southern Hawke's Bay since Sunday.

Fonterra says it's been able to pick up the milk from all the farms within the area that the police cordoned off near Norsewood, during their search for a gunman, who's now been located and arrested.

Fonterra says the police operation resulted in 12 of its suppliers being evacuated from theirn properties on Sunday evening and tankers were unable to get through the cordon to collect milk.

However, these farmers were allowed back to their farms under escort late on Monday to milk and feed and water their cows.

Fonterra says its tankers started picking up milk from the farms on Monday night, as soon as the police gave a clearance.

However, it says weather conditions made it too dangerous to reach six of those farms and the milk from those was collected on Tuesday morning.
