Full review to be held of meat hygiene regulations

The Food Safety Authority says there are no sacred cows in a review of meat hygiene regulations and practices.

A joint task force has been set up with the Meat Industry Association, which initiated the project.

The FSA says everything from top to bottom is open for discussion in the review, which has the potential to make some profound changes to long-established practices.

Chief executive Andrew McKenzie says there are two aims; opening new markets and reducing compliance costs, so farmers can reduce the gap between of producing meat and the price it's sold for.
