Plant science conference starts

7:49 pm on 2 July 2013

Researchers from seven New Zealand universities and two Crown research institutes met in Manawatu on Tuesday for the 2013 Plant Science conference.

All the latest scientific work looking at drought resistant ryegrasses, closed loop nitrogen systems and new ways of predicting kiwifruit storage potential will be presented and discussed.

Scientist from Massey University, Professor Julian Heyes, discussed his recent work at the Vanuatu Agricultural Research and Technical Centre at the conference.

Professor Heyes says Massey University is looking to build closer links with the Vanuatu science centre through a programme of placements for its PhD students and staff to help them with their work.
