Quake reality starting to hit farmers

2:43 pm on 21 August 2013

A rural support trust says the reality of the earthquakes in the Marlborough region is starting to sink in for farmers.

While the quakes have not affected farm life to any great degree, the Top of the South Rural Support Trust said the fact many farmers have had their homes damaged has left them very insecure.

Coordinator Ian Blair said it will be very difficult to find temporary accommodation near their farms.

But, after two days without any further major jolts, he said the earthquakes appear to be easing which is lifting buoyancy and farmers are just getting on with business.

Mr Blair said almost all farms have their water supply back now, after repairs to the main water scheme supplying the Awatere Valley and bordering area.

He expects that two or three farms still without water will have full supply restored in the next day or so.
