Fonterra board nominations close

2:56 pm on 17 September 2013

Nominations have closed for three farmer seats on the Fonterra board but it will be next month before the co-operative officially announces who the candidates are.

But it will be October 1st before the co-operative officially announces who the candidates are.

That's because those putting their names forward have to be vetted by an assessment panel before they are formally accepted as candidates.

Two of the three positions are held by sitting directors Malcolm Bailey and Ian Farrelly, whose seats are up for re-election at the end of their three-year terms.

The other seat has been left vacant by the retirement of former Fonterra chairman Sir Henry van der Heyden, who left earlier this year after handing over the reins to John Wilson.

Elections are also being held for some positions on the Fonterra Shareholders Council, representing its 10,500 farmer owners.

Nominations closed on 13 September and the candidates will be announced on 1 October.
