New strain of blood disease

Farmers are advised to notify vets if they spot their stock have a blood disease that can make dairy and beef cattle anaemic.

More than 100 farms have confirmed cases of a new strain of theileria and 700 deaths have been reported. The disease is spread by ticks.

For most farms it is a mild infection and relatively small numbers of cattle are affected.
