Dairy auction prices up, volume down

Dairy prices rose on Tuesday night in Fonterra's latest fortnightly global auction, but volumes eased slightly.

The GDT Price Index rose 2.4%, with an average selling price of $US4980 per tonne.

Prices for all products on auction rose, with the exception of rennet cassein and milk protein concentrate.

AAP reports whole milk powder rose 2.3% to $US5,183 per tonne and skim milk powder gained 3.9% to $US4,491 per tonne.

Cheddar rose 2.3% to $US4,389 per tonne and rennet casein fell 0.8% to $US9,753 per tonne.

A total of 45,253 tonnes of product was sold, down 3% on the 46,660 tonnes sold in the last auction two weeks ago.
