Crown Research Institute Plant and Food has had two successes in the New Zealand Innovators Awards, announced on Thursday.

It won the Innovation in Environment and Agriculture category for research into insect sex pheromones.

The Biopolymer Network, a company jointly owned by Plant and Food and AgResearch, also won the Innovation Excellence in Research category.

Plant and Food's former chief scientist, Ian Ferguson, now working as scientific adviser to the Ministry for Primary Industries, has been recognised by the government of China with its premier award for foreigners, the National Friendship Award.

Dr Ferguson's award was for his long-standing working relationship with Zhejiang University.
