Ministry re-jigs rules for some meat inspections

The Primary Industries Ministry says it's fine tuned the rules around meat companies doing some of their own meat inspections.

The Ministry's alternative post mortem inspection option came into force in August 2012.

It allowed the export meat industry to choose whether to use independent government inspectors or their own company inspectors - on non-food safety areas.

The ministry's principal risk advisor for its standards branch, Judi Lee, says the Ministry has now made a few changes to the regulations to make the rules around performance standards, training and supervision clearer.
