The organisation in charge of managing the kiwifruit bacterial disease PSA hopes it's acted promptly enough to stop it spreading in the Kumeu area in north-west Auckland.
The disease was confirmed on an orchard in Kumeu last week, the first positive result for the area.
Kiwifruit Vine Health has carried out tests on 11 nearby orchards and they have not detected further outbreaks.
KVH says one hectare of the gold kiwifruit variety Hort 16A has been removed from the infected orchard and surrounding orchardists are removing susceptible male vines.
It says it hopes the swift response will stop PSA's spread.
