Peru opens borders to NZ meat exports

6:31 am on 5 December 2013

Peru has opened its borders to sheep meat and beef exports from New Zealand.

It has approved the listing of all New Zealand exporters who have registered their interest in exporting beef, sheep meat and offal there.

The listings are valid for three years and there's the option of having more exporters added to the list.

Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy says it's great news for the meat industry and will give exporters access to a new market.

In 2011, Peru imported $19 million worth of red meat.

Mr Guy says the market has significant potential for growth.
