Lincoln University will be monitoring nitrate leaching levels on Ngai Tahu dairy farms at Eyrewell in North Canterbury under a new partnership between the iwi and the university.
Under the agreement, Lincoln will provide a three-year programme of environmental, biodiversity and water resource monitoring. The programme will include restoration planting.
Ngai Tahu Farming began dairy farming at Eyrewell last year.
It says nutrient levels in waterways are its main concern and the university will install automatic monitoring equipment to measure the nitrogen loss in drainage water.
