Meat and Wool New Zealand has confirmed it will change its name to reflect farmers' decision to dump the wool levy they had been paying for research and other wool-related activities.
The organisation will be called Beef and Lamb New Zealand Limited.
Chair Mike Petersen says it makes sense for it to share its name with the its partner in promoting domestic red meat consumption, Beef and Lamb New Zealand Incorporated.
Meat and Wool chair Mike Petersen says although the new title states only beef and lamb, the organisation will continue to represent the interests of other sectors as well.
Mr Petersen says the organisation will spend the next couple of months testing the name, to see if it's got it right.
