Wool prices soften again

6:35 am on 6 February 2014

Wool prices have softened again overall, for the second week running.

At the combined North and South Island sale 14,800 bales were offered for auction and 81 percent were sold.

New Zealand Wool Services International says prices held their ground for some types of wool needed for immediate shipment. But harder to sell lines were discounted.

Fine crossbred fleece and shears were up to 3 percent cheaper, as were coarse shears and lambs' fleece.

Prices for coarse crossbred fleece were up to 5 percent lower.
