15-year-olds shine at Golden Shears

The next generation of New Zealand's top shearers and wool handlers have been doing their thing in the novice events at the Golden Shears in Masterton.

Fifteen-year-old Connor Puha of Kimbolton won the novice shearing final on Thursday on day one of the three-day event.

The Feilding High School student will also be lining up in the senior woolhandling event on Saturday - he's the top qualifier for the semi-finals.

Another 15-year-old, Shaylyn Te Huia, won the novice woolhandling final, having also won at the recent North Island championships in Marton.
