The Elders Primary Wool company has received the first order for New Zealand wool for its "Just Shorn" carpet brand.
The brand, launched in the US earlier this year, will be used on a new range of New Zealand wool rugs and carpets aimed at the top end of the market.
Elders' New Zealand managing director Stuart Chapman says the order, from US-based carpet maker Fabrica, is for a small amount of wool for sample carpets.
The order is still significant, he says, because the carpet manufacturer is paying a premium of about $1.30 a kilo over the market price for similar quality wool.
He says the company's carpet samples will go into shops in late June.
