Fine for worker crushed in spreader

2:26 pm on 9 April 2014

A Waikato fertiliser spreading company has been fined and order to pay reparation after one of its workers was crushed to death in a truck in June 2013.

Wealleans Groundspread Limited pleaded guilty to failing to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of Tyler Old, who was 18.

It was fined $33750 and ordered to pay reparation of $70,000 in Morrinsville District Court

Worksafe New Zealand says no one saw the incident but it appears Mr Old climbed into the hopper on the back of the truck and got trapped in the chain conveyor.
