No relief is in sight for Northland farmers affected by drought, with very little rain and conditions continuing to deteriorate.

While some eastern areas have had good growing conditions over summer, Northland's west coast has been bone dry.

The Northland Rural Support Trust says with autumn underway, the situation is getting worse.

Coordinator Julie Jonker says some farmers are having to take stern measures to manage, including beef farmers destocking and dairy farmers drying off early.

She says animal feed is becoming scarce and anyone with spare silage or grazing available should contact her.

Ms Jonker says morning dew will give the appearance of green growth in some areas but it is not enough to grow grass.
