Push to sell NZ hand-crafted rugs in US

Wool Equities is backing an enterprise to sell hand-crafted New Zealand wool rugs in the United States.

The farmer owned investment company has formed a subsidiary company which it plans to turn into a joint venture with the Romney New Zealand sheep breed organisation.

It's associated with Elders' Just Shorn wool carpet in the United States and will use the same retail chain, the IDG, or the International Design Guild.

Wool Equities chair Cliff Heath says it will bring life to a venture that's been struggling because of lack of funding.

He says orders have been placed for rug samples to go into 120 IDG stores across the United States and they are being made in Nepal now.
