NZ olive oils win gold at Los Angeles

12:45 pm on 24 July 2014

Eight New Zealand producers have collected 13 gold medals at the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition, one of the world's leading olive oil competitions.

While the best in show awards went to Chile and Uruguay, New Zealand entries took almost a third of the golds as well as a share of other medals.

Olives New Zealand Executive Officer Gayle Sheridan says it's a testament to this country being one of the top producers of extra virgin olive oil.

The New Zealand gold medal winners at Los Angeles were Matiatia Grove and Rangihoua Estate with three medals each, Virtuo with two medals, and Azzuro Groves, Kennedy Point, Man O'War, Number 29 and Whangape Grove with one medal each.

The New Zealand awards will be judged in September.
